Former Bolton Wanderers Midfielder Kevin Nolan has described Austin Jay Jay Okocha as the best player the club signed under Manager Sam Allardyce.
Okocha joined the then Premier League club from Ligue Un side Paris Saint-Germain in 2002 and earned a cult-hero status, with his brilliance on the pitch and the success at the club.
The Nigerian Maestro captained Bolton and also helped them qualify for the UEFA Europa League, in one of the club’s most successful era.
According to Nolan, who also captained the club, Okocha was to Bolton as Ronaldinho was to FC Barcelona.
‘ I’ve never seen such a performance in 6 or 8 months that this guy brought us up and helped us stay up,’ the 37 year-old Nolan said during a TV show.
‘The things he does in training and taught us it was wonder. He did to us in training what he did to opponents.’
‘His goal against West ham, taking the ball on a run from the middle of the pitch, it was the catalyst.
‘For all the players Sam brought in, none was like Jay Jay. He was like Ronaldinho was with Barcelona.’
