Calvin Bassey was on parade as Ajax Amsterdam lost to AZ Alkmaar in the domestic league on Sunday.

The Nigeria international had a game to forget as his error proved costly as the Alfred Schreuder’s suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey was at the center of Ajax defense who handed 2 goals on a platter to AZ Alkmaar.

Ajax took the lead early on in the game with a goal from in-form Ghanaian winger Mohammed Kudus in the 12th minute.

The hosts leveled the game in the 40th minute, following a fine finish from Mees De Wit.

AZ Alkmaar completed the turn around in the second half, no thanks to Bassey who placed Danish striker Jens Odgaard inside and allowed him to fire past the goalkeeper.

The Nigerian CB tried to redeemed himself by supporting the attack, but Alkmaar’s defense stood firm to resist the pressure.

The defeat ended Ajax Amsterdam unbeaten start to the new season.
