Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey was on parade for Ajax Amsterdam in their second Champions League group game against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday.

The Nigerian defender recovered from the calf injury he sustained over the weekend to partner Jurrien Timber in the heart of the defense.

Bassey was impressive and played all the minutes of the game for the Dutch champions.

The 22-year-old completed 90% of his passes, recorded three interceptions, three recoveries, three duels, two blocks, won three tackles and made five clearances.

Bassey’s masterclass however was not enough to safe Ajax from defeat at Anfield.

Liverpool took the lead through Mohammed Salah inside the opening five minutes, man of the moment, Mohammed Kudus restored parity for the visitors.

Ajax were few minutes away from securing a point, before Joel Matip broke their resistance with a last minute header from a corner.
