Mario Balotelli has hit back at Brendan Rodgers’ joke claim that the Italian is the best player he has ever coached.

The former Liverpool boss made the gag during an awards ceremony at Celtic on Tuesday night.

The 44-year-old went on to claim that the striker, who spent a solitary season at Anfield, was a ‘fantastic player’.

Balotelli responded on Twitter on Wednesday saying: ‘Brendan Rodgers you are also the best manager I ever had. Amazing’ complete with a cry-laughing emoji and a kiss.

Both of them spent one turbulent season together at Liverpool in 2014-15 and enjoyed an antagonistic relationship.

The Italy international, signed in a £16million deal in August 2014, scored just one Premier League goal in 16 appearances.
