Balogun’s header keeps QPR on top of Championship table

Leon Balogun scored the decisive goal as Queens Park Rangers beat Wigan Athletic 2-1 in Saturday’s English Championship match.

The Nigerian was a surprise inclusion in the starting 11 for the London club against his former side.

Balogun however made the difference with his first goal for the club, when he powered home a header from a corner to make it 2-1 to QPR.

The goal came two minutes after Nathan Broadhead’s volley cancelled out Sam Field’s 12th minute opening goal for Queens Park Rangers.

Michael Beale’s side survived the second half pressure from the Latics to claim a win which keeps them top on goal difference from Blackburn.

The defeat was the sixth in eight for the Latics and they dropped to 19th place, within three points of the relegation places.
