Balogun Sumisola out to make impression at the Africa Wrestling Championship

Nigeria’s Fast rising Africa Youth Games champion, Balogun Idowu Sunmisola will hope to make an impact in her first senior category fight outside Nigeria.

Balogun who won gold at the 2018 National Sports Festival placed fourth at the Youth Olympic Games will face Amel Hamiche of Algeria in the 65kg Women’s category at the ongoing Africa Championships in Tunisia.

The likes of Odunayo Adekuroroye, Blessing Oborududu will also be aiming for another good outing at the continental championship in the women’s category.

Meanwhile, the Chief Coach of the National Wrestling team Purity Akuh said the team must do well at the championship in order to gain enough points for automatic qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

“The tournament would afford our wrestlers to gain the needed points that will give them automatic qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.

Points amassed from this tournament will indeed aid their ranking in the world as only the top six wrestlers in each weight category get automatic qualification for the Olympic Games,” Akuh said.
