Balogun returns to action in Brighton’s EFL Cup win

Leon Balogun made his first appearance for Brighton this season in the 2-1 away win over Bristol Rovers in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Balogun, who also only played bit parts in Nigeria’s 2019 AFCON campaign, was not named in any of the Seagull’s premier league matches so far this season.

But, Manager Graham Potter decided to hand his Nigerian Center half 90 minutes on Tuesday, in the second round EFL Cup tie against the League One side.

The Center half played in a three-man defence line as Brighton bounced back from last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Southampton.

Tuesday’s win helped the team reach the third round of the competition with goals from Aaron Connolly (55′) and Glenn Murray (90+2′), either side of Bristol Tom Nichols (64′).
