Africa’s reps at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris where the Ballon d’Or took place, Monday night, put on a show in style for the red carpet.
Didier Drogba was co-hosting the Ballon d’Or as he has done for a couple of years now and the Ivoirien was the fashion Killa that time in his white Tux.
For me, he headlined the show – stealing it with his ensemble before the real stars of the night started emerging.
It was the 68th edition of the most prestigious football awards, and it has never not been known to share the occasion with some glitz and glamour – that’s the life of football stars.
On the night in Paris, Ademola Lookman, Ronwen Williams and the Legendary George Weah showed up.
Here’s how we rate their fits:
Didier Drogba – 10
The former football star played the role, looking like James Bond in Paris – “never un-fresh”.
Ademola Look man – 6 up 8
He went bold with a one-piece suit, bow tie and the waist strap. Lookman was a gladiator through August 2023 to July 2024 both for Club and Country, which would have made that girdle like strap fit the persona. He owned it, with an outfit made for the Met Gala.
Ronwen Williams 8
The single sleeve print on his one-piece suit was the statement, and a simple silhouette that accompanied it to his trousers and shoes, gives off the casual formal appearance.
George Weah 6
The only African to have won a Ballon d’Or, Weah’s best act remains – till date – his amazing career at AC Milan. The former Liberian President showed up like he had just come from a Career day visit to a primary school.
