Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi says his target is to represent the senior Nigerian national team sooner, but he will gladly wait for his chance.
The 22-year-old has played for the country at the U17, U20 and U23 level, but he’s yet to get a call into the senior national team.
While the Liverpool forward is waiting for his first call up, his teammates at the youth level such as Kelechi Iheanacho, Francis Uzoho and Isaac Success have since debuted for the Super Eagles.
In chat brila.net, Awoniyi who is on loan at German Bundesliga Club Union Berlin, said he is not affected by lack of opportunity to prove himself in the team, but he’s confident that his time will come.
“The national team question for me is a big thing. I remember in the U17 and U20 days, the pride to wear the national colors is massive.”
“I understand that the Country has talents in abundance, But I also have stick to my principle of time and season and continue to work hard.”
“When it’s my time I’ll take the opportunity and understand it for what it is.” He told brila.net.
Awoniyi has been in good form for Union Berlin this season, scoring three goals in his last five outings in the league.
