Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi made his return from a hamstring injury in Nottingham Forest’s impressive 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.
Awoniyi, who had been sidelined since early April, came on as a substitute in the 75th minute, replacing Chris Wood as Forest looked to hold on to their lead.
It was a welcome return for the Nigeria international, who has struggled with injuries this season and has found opportunities limited.
The win gave Nottingham Forest a significant boost in their pursuit of UEFA Champions League football.
With three games left to play, Nuno Espírito Santo’s men sit third on the Premier League table with 60 points, strengthening their hopes of securing a top-four finish.
Forest started brightly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, taking the lead in just the fifth minute through Elliot Anderson.
Ten minutes later, Chris Wood had a goal ruled out by VAR for a marginal offside, but the New Zealander made amends in the 16th minute, slotting home to double the visitors’ advantage.
Tottenham mounted a late push, and Richarlison pulled one back in the 87th minute to set up a tense finale. However, Forest stood firm to secure all three points and continue their impressive campaign under Santo.
While Awoniyi’s return is a positive sign, his season has been underwhelming by his standards.

The 27-year-old has managed just two goals in 28 appearances across all competitions, and he will be hoping to make the most of the remaining games to regain confidence and form.
His Super Eagles teammate, Ola Aina, remains out of action due to a muscle injury.
As the season nears its end, Awoniyi will be aiming to prove his worth, not only to his club but also to Super Eagles selectors ahead of the Unity Cup and to potential suitors eyeing a summer move.
