Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has been named Nottingham Forest’s PFA Community Champion for the 2024/25 season, in recognition of his exceptional efforts to support local communities.
Despite enduring a difficult campaign marred by injuries and limited playing time, Awoniyi remained a positive presence both in and out of the squad.
The 27-year-old struggled, managing just one goal in 26 appearances for the Tricky Trees.
He largely played second fiddle to Chris Wood throughout the season and was sidelined by multiple injuries.
Still, Awoniyi’s impact was felt in other ways, especially off the pitch.
In a statement released on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), Nottingham Forest announced:
“Taiwo Awoniyi has been named our PFA Community Champion for the 2024/25 season in recognition of his outstanding dedication to supporting local communities throughout the year.”
The PFA Community Champion Award is presented annually to players who go above and beyond to make meaningful contributions to society outside of football.
For Awoniyi, this honour reflects his consistent commitment to giving back, regardless of personal setbacks on the field.
One of the standout moments of his community involvement came in March when Awoniyi hosted a special community meal in Nottingham.
The initiative was inclusive of both Christian and Muslim residents in the city. For Muslims, it served as Iftar during Ramadan; for Christians, it offered a meal break during Lent a gesture that resonated across faiths and cultures.
In addition, Awoniyi has been regularly seen engaging with fans, often showing appreciation after games and posting heartfelt messages on social media.
As he looks to bounce back in the upcoming season, Awoniyi can take pride in knowing his efforts off the field have already made a lasting impact.
