Nottingham Forest’s Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi had a frustrating night in his first start of the season, as his team was eliminated by Newcastle United in a penalty shootout during a second round match of the League Cup, on Wednesday.
Awoniyi played the full 90 minutes, during which he attempted three shots but failed to find the back of the net.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, leading to a tense penalty shootout.
Unfortunately, the Nigerian’s frustrations continued as he missed his penalty, contributing to Forest’s 4-3 loss on penalties.
Awoniyi who has now been involved in three matches for Nottingham Forest this season, is still searching for his first goal of the season.
Awoniyi’s compatriot, Ola Aina was not in action for the club during the Cup tie.
