The Super Falcons may be the most successful football team in Africa, but the players don’t get the credit they deserve and it’s high time they started looking inwards for that support according to Falconets midfielder Gift Monday. On Monday the team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Belgium in the Cyprus international invitational tournament, in their final group game. While this has been the most comprehensive preparation for any Falcons team before a tournament, the 8 goals conceded in three games has drawn criticisms, unwarranted in the opinion of the FC Robo midfielder. Daniel Akpeyi’s move to Kaizer Chiefs from Chippa United was a big leap and it comes with a huge responsibility to fill the gloves of the iconic Itumelenge Khune, but only three games into that journey and the Nigerian may already be feeling the heat. Akpeyi’s surprise January move was the biggest upgrade by any Nigerian goalkeeper in a while and it very much looks like the last he could get as first choice; at 32. Naturally a winger, with great pace, a dribbler and one with an eye for goal, the diminutive player has been deployed in virtually every outfield role by Head Coach Kabiru Dogo. In a…

Rivers Hoopers have crashed out of the Africa Basketball League following Sunday’s 91-70 defeat to JS Kairouan in their final group A game. For the second consecutive game, Abdul Yahaya delivered double figures, to clinch a team-high 22points, but his effort was not to carry the Kings Men over the line. They lost their first game by a massive 29 points in the…
