Austin Eguavoen: ‘I Can’t Talk About Libya Yet; I’ll Discuss Next Steps with NFF

Austin Eguavoen, acting coach for the Nigerian Super Eagles, has declined to comment on the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Libya.

Eguavoen, who is also the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was appointed as caretaker boss to manage the team’s matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda after Bruno Labbadia turned down the coaching role.

He stated that he will consult with the NFF executive members to determine the next steps.

Meanwhile, he also emphasized that while he has not been briefed on the Libya fixture, he is prepared to offer insights and support if another coach is assigned.

“I can’t discuss Libya at this moment, but if a new coach comes in, I’ll share relevant information to help overcome the challenge,” Eguavoen said.

He expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic and the draw with Rwanda.

Eguavoen’s temporary mandate has concluded with these matches, and he expressed gratitude to the NFF leadership and players for their support and discipline.

“I have been given a mandate to handle two games. I want to say I am very pleased with the boys and again thanks to the NFF leadership and all the boys supported me in terms of discipline and working hard.

“It ends today, which is the two games mandate.”
