Aston Villa is considering offering cash plus a player for Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey.
The Premier League side are interested in the defender, and it is understood Rangers would demand at least £25m for the 22-year-old.
Villa’s manager Steven Gerrard will be key in any deal to bring Bassey to England as he signed him for Rangers in 2020 and played an important role in his development.
However, Villa must meet Rangers’ valuation before a deal can be agreed this summer.
According to Birmingham Echo, Villa are planning to offer a player plus £15m for the Nigerian international in order to persuade Rangers to sell.
It reported that Rangers hold an interest in Villa Cameron Archer, and Villa is ready to include the 20-year-old in the negotiation for Bassey.
Villa believed using Archer as a makeweight in the deal will force Rangers drop their asking price.
