Former Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala has celebrated winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League with her former club.

Oshoala reacted to the Spanish champions’ triumph over Olympique Lyon by posting a picture of her Barcelona shirt captioned with four medal emojis.

Barcelona secured the UWCL title by defeating record-winners Lyon 2-0 in Bilbao, marking their first victory over Lyon in history.

This win signifies Barcelona Femeni consecutive title triumph and their third in four years.

The 29-year-old Nigerian forward, currently with Bay FC in the United States, has scored two goals in 10 games. However, her team currently sits 12th in a league of 14 teams.

Why Oshoala Got a Medal

UEFA’s rules for awarding winners’ medals allow the club to decide which players receive individual honors.

According to Section 11.03 of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League regulations: “The winning team is presented with 40 gold medals and the runner-up with 40 silver medals.”

There are no specific UEFA regulations on the number of appearances a player must make in the competition to earn a medal.

Asisat Oshoala featured in two matches and scored one goal for Barcelona in the 2023/24 Champions League season.
