Asisat Oshoala Scores Against Former Club in Bay FC’s Defeat to Barcelona

Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring for Bay FC in the 17th minute but chose to downplay her celebration against her former club.

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala was in action for Bay FC on Wednesday morning, facing off against her former club FC Barcelona Femení in a thrilling friendly match that ended in a 5-2 defeat for her team.

Oshoala opened the scoring for Bay FC in the 17th minute. She intercepted a pass from Barcelona’s goalkeeper near the edge of the box and fired a precise shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Out of respect for Barcelona, where she spent five successful years, the 29 year-old chose to downplay her celebration.

However, Barcelona quickly took control of the game, scoring five goals to secure the victory at PayPal Park.

This was the first time the record six-time African Women’s Player of the Year faced her former club since joining the NWSL side in February.

Asisat Oshoala enjoyed a successful spell at Barcelona, scoring 85 goals in 101 matches between 2019 and 2024.

During her time with the club, she won five Primera División titles, three UEFA Women’s Champions League titles, four Supercopa de España Femenina titles, three Copa de la Reina titles, and one Copa Catalunya title.
