Nigerian forward, Asisat Oshoala played a crucial role in Bay FC’s 3-2 win over the Houston Dash, securing their place in the 2024 NWSL Playoffs.
The expansion team from California earned one of the eight coveted playoff spots, with standout performances from Racheal Kundananji, who netted a brace, and an own goal by Paige Nielsen.
Houston Dash tried to stage a comeback with goals from Barbara Olivieri and Avery Patterson, but it wasn’t enough as Bay FC held on for the victory.
Oshoala, who joined Bay FC from European champions Barcelona, has been in action in her debut NWSL season, tallying seven goals and one assist over 25 games, making her Bay FC’s top scorer.
She was substituted at halftime in the match against Houston, giving her team an early edge before making way for Penelope Hocking.
Bay FC finished seventh in the regular season standings with 34 points.
They will now face Washington Spirit in the quarterfinals on November 10, 2024 to continue their championship journey.
The NWSL playoff lineup also includes Orlando Pride vs. Chicago Red Stars, KC Current vs. North Carolina Courage, and Gotham FC vs. Portland Thorns.
These quarterfinals will determine which teams advance in the quest for the NWSL championship, with games scheduled across the weekend.
