Aruna Quadri sets African Games Target

Nigeria’s top-ranked table tennis player, Aruna Quadri is determined to clinch the coveted African Games men’s singles title after securing victories in the initial rounds.

Having previously earned silver medals in the last two games, the 32-year-old is eyeing redemption and aims to break the streak of near misses.

Quadri sailed through the first round with a bye and then triumphed over Mbati Kombissingue from Central African Republic in three straight sets.

Advancing to the round of 32 scheduled for Friday, he continued his winning streak by defeating Andre Quibuco and Stephanie Quachie with scores of 3-0 and 3-1 in the round of 32 and round of 16, respectively.

Quadri, who is Africa’s highest-ranked table tennis player, is driven to complete his collection of African medals by clinching the men’s singles title at the African Games.

Reflecting on his aspirations, he stated, “Winning the men’s singles title is what I hope to achieve here. In the past, I lost in the finals of men’s singles twice in consecutive editions, but this time around.

“I believe I will be lucky to win it in Ghana,” He concluded.

The stage is set for an intense battle as Quadri strives to make history and secure the elusive gold.

However he faces still competition from Egypt’s Omar Assar and his compatriot Omotaya Olajide.
