Arokodare’s Goal Earns Genk first win in 2024

Tolu Arokodare was instrumental as Genk came from behind to beat RWDM in Saturday’s Belgium top division league clash.

KRC Genk entered the game seeking for their first win in 2024, and coach Wouter Vrancken opted to start the Nigerian in the attack.

However, the Smurfs started slowly and deservedly fell behind after two minutes and from the game’s first attack.

Genk allowed RWDM’s Carlos Alberto finish off a complete team move after much too weak defending.

It was indeed a poor start for a team in crisis that was also confronted with a supporters’ boycott.

The Limburgers could only breathe a sigh of relief when Tolu Arokodare restored the parity with an excellent header from corner kick taken by El Khannouss.

It was the Nigerian’s 8th goal of the season for Genk – he also has two assists to his name.

Genk took control of the match and went in front just past the half-hour mark, with a fine strike from Luca Oyen from another El Khannouss’ assist.

The home side then sealed the victory through Andi Zeqiri, in added time of second half.

Following the win, KRC Genk moved into the top six.
