Arokodare Faces Criticism in Despite Strong Performance

Tolu Arokodare, has recently come under scrutiny from fans and analysts in the Belgian Pro League, despite his goal-scoring record in the new season.

The criticism peaked during the opening match of the new campaign, where former Belgium star Wesley Sonck took aim at Arokodare, accusing him of being more focused on showing off his physique than on his performance.

“The criticism gives me extra energy in a way,” Arokodare said in an interview with Het Belang van Limburg.

“I took it so hard because the man who said it was apparently a professional footballer himself.”

Arokodare dismissed the notion that his choice of jersey had any bearing on his footballing abilities.

“I just can’t stand sleeves,” he explained.  “I always wear sleeveless shirts in the summer, and at my previous club, Amiens, I even cut the sleeves out of our training shirts.”

“Responding to these comments only fuels certain perceptions among some Genk supporters,” he noted.

“For instance, some interpret my body language as arrogance, but anyone who knows me even a little knows that is absolutely not true. I am who I am.”

The lanky Nigerian forward has scored four goals for Genk so far this season.
