At the start of the Tunisien Ligue Professionnelle 1, US Monastir’s striker, Anthony Okpotu’s ambition of the 19/20 season was to help his team win the league and improve on his goal returns from last season.
Over the weekend, US Monastir lost 2-1 to Etoile de Sahel to remain third on the standings, With Okpotu securing his 8th goal of the season.
Okpotu who scored 71 NPFL goals before moving abroad is the frontrunner of the Tunisien topscorers chart, netting 5 goals in the last 8 games and stands a chance to be the first Nigerian in the Tunisian League to finish as the top scorer since Michael Eneramo who scored won the golden boot back to back with Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the 08/09 and 2009/2010 season.
Okpotu who’s playing his first full season in the Tunisian League said “There’s need to overcome different challenges to show that you’re good enough, hence my stay in the Tunisian Ieague but when the time and right club comes I’ll make the right decision.”
The former NPFL goal king who has surpassed his goal tally of last season is optimistic he could be considered for the CAF Inter-club player of the year. ‘I strongly believe that if I keep up the good performance here, I’ll be considered for the CAF awards in the best Interclub player of the year category.
