Anthony Nwakaeme has been brutal in front of goal this season for Hapoel Be’er Sheva; with three goals in two matches in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round, and he believes this could be his and Be’er Sheva’s season.
Hapoel Be’er Sheva are three games away from booking a UEFA Champions League group stage place and Nwakaeme has been crucial to the team’s run.
His goals saw them edge past Honved and secured a comfortable 2-0 first leg win against Ludogorets.
Later on Wednesday, the Ligat HA’al champions play away in the second leg of the encounter and Nwakaeme is confident this could be the season they break into the big league.
‘The target is to play in the Champions League, but it’s not what you say but do on the pitch.
‘Really, the target for us is to get to the Champions League and we’re very much prepared this season.’
The 28-year-old forward is yet to get an international cap for Nigeria and he thinks coming off a season where he was crowned MVP in Israel and his current form, it’ll be disappointing if he’s overlooked again for an Eagles shirt.
‘I want to score more than I did last season and that’s because I don’t set specific goals target. That has been the trend with my game for several seasons.
‘This time around though, the target will be to play for the Super Eagles and I will feel disappointed if I don’t a call up this time around of course.
‘At the moment most clubs are in pre season and I have been very active in pre season. I have been playing competitive games, so ideally you’d expect that I should be considered.’
