Nigerian CB, Oluwatosin Demehin and her Galatasaray teammates faced a heavy 6-1 defeat against AS Roma in their UEFA Women’s Champions League Group A match, at the Atatürk Stadium, on Thursday night.
AS Roma dominated the game, starting with a goal by Moeka Minami in the 10th minute, followed by a brace from Paloma Lázaro, who scored in the 30th and 38th minutes.
Elisa Bartoli added another goal in the 65th minute, and Sophie Roman Haug sealed Roma’s commanding performance with two late strikes in the 75th and 89th minutes.
Galatasaray’s only goal came from Yagmur Uraz in the 51st minute, but it was not enough to mount a comeback against the Italian team’s superior performance.
Demehin featured in the game for the full 90 minutes. She made five clearances and blocked three shots but dispossessed 17 times.
Demehin and her fellow defenders were unable to avoid the goal rush from Roma ladies.
This result leaves Galatasaray sitting in 4th place in Group A, while AS Roma hold the top spot. In the other Group A match, Lyon defeated Wolfsburg 2-0, climbing to second place.
Galatasaray will look to recover in their next Champions League group match as they face Wolfsburg, needing a win to revive their campaign.
