In what could now be felt as a pattern, yet again, the Super Eagles disappointed their teeming fans by failing to inspire in the 1-1 draw against a lowly rated Zimbabwe who have been out of action for about a year.

“Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me” is a saying that, in the current situation of the Super Eagles and especially, that of goalkeeper Francis ‘Majimbo’ Uzoho, could now be termed to be a cliche as it feels almost like a crisis now for the Omonoia FC goalkeeper, as he was beaten by Walter Musona’s 35-yard free kick.

It could also be said that the threshold for mistake that has been set, at this rate, has been abused by head coach, Jose Peseiro who keeps selecting Uzoho despite the latter almost always grabbing headlines for the wrong reasons as match days go by.

Before the Zimbabwe opener, the Super Eagles were expected to at least, force the issue with more attacking intent and urgency, but both were absent as they started the game slowly and went into a familiar path when the Zimbabweans attacked first and even twice in quick succession.

The Super Eagles did little to respond in the first half and could not even have a shot at goal in the first half.

Jose Peseiro sent on Victor Boniface, Kelechi Iheanacho who went on to get the equalizer and Bright Osayi-Samuel for Frank Onyeka, Nathan Tella and Ola Aina respectively.

But the fortunes remained still and did not come until Kelechi Iheanacho tried a 40-yard belter, but it curled just wide.

A goal will finally come when Moses Simon did well in the box on the right hand side and played a small pass into the path of Iheanacho who struck home from close range.

From then on, Zimbabwe attacked more, despite the Super Eagles trying to mount more pressure, but nothing doing as the match went by rather frustratingly for the fans who were able to watch via stream or listen on radio.

Zimbabwe came close to scoring twice with good chances at that, one time, a good cross came in from the deep, and goalkeeper Uzoho completely missed a high-claim, the ball settled down well for a Zimbabwean attacker to rifle home but he sent his shot into row-z.

Shortly after that the Super Eagles had an opportunity to score when the goalkeeper handled a back pass, and an indirect free kick was given to the Super Eagles who missed by whiskers after Joe Aribo’s effort was cleared off the line.

But for Jamilu Collins, who was subbed in for Bruno Onyemaechi, Zimbabwe could have gotten a goal late on when Semi Ajayi missed footing and allowed Zimbabwe press a counter attack from inside their own half, a clever pass was played forward and it beat Calvin Bassey, only for Collins to rush into his man, sending him sprawling just outside the box.

The result of the free kick was however blazed high over the bar and from then on, the Super Eagles did not do much to grab the game at the death.
