Victor Anichebe became the second Nigeria in one of Europe’s top 5 leagues to be relegated on Saturday after his Sunderland side lost 1-0 to Bournemouth in the Premier League at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland were relegated with four games remaining this season after they failed to cut the points deficit with the three teams directly above them.

David Moyes‘ men knew a victory would give them some breathing space, but long before the final whistle, it seems doubt crept in and the disinterested home crowd did little to lift their spirits.

Joshua King‘s 88th minute strike will however be the final nail on the coffin of the Black Cats, who have been woeful all season.

Anichebe joined the Tyneside club in September as a free agent, on a deal till the end of the season.

He had been one of the brightest spots to Moyes’ reign at the troubled club, but there was little even he could do.

It’s left to be seen if the club would want to retain his services as they lock in to the championship mode.
