Amusan Misses Out on Athlete of the Year Shortlist

Tobi Amusan didn’t make the final shortlist for the Women’s World Athlete of The Year Award.

In the list made public on Wednesday by the World Athletics, Amusan was missing despite fine run to the end of the year.

Although nomination depends on various factors, including performances and accomplishments during the year, but Amusan is right there among the top performers this year.

Tobi Amusan, who holds the record in the women’s 100m hurdles, had a promising start to the season, but the momentum was halted by several factors, including high profile battle with Athletics Integrity Unit.

The 25-year-old was suspended by the body for three whereabouts failures just few weeks to the World championship, although she was later clear to compete after a successful appeal.

Amusan managed to get to the final of the women’s 100m hurdlers but finished disappointing 6th, and relinquished the world title she won in Oregon to Danielle Williams of Jamaica.

She put the disappointment behind and won the 100m women’s hurdles in 12.33s to retain her Diamond League title, in August.

The Nigerian became the only the second woman in the history of the Diamond League to clinch three 100m hurdles titles in a row, equaling the record of Dawn Nelson-Harper.

Meanwhile the nominees are: Tigist Assefa and Gudaf Tsegay, both from Ethiopia, and Kenya’s Faith
Kipyegon.
