World record holder, Tobi Amusan was disqualified in the first women’s 100mH Diamond League event of the season held in Shanghai on Saturday.
Amusan’s disqualification stemmed from a false start, where she narrowly surpassed the start threshold by 0.007s.
Despite the setback, the Star requested to continue running under protest, a plea that was eventually granted by race officials.
Amusan ultimately clinched victory. Yet, controversy loomed large as Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who crossed the finish line second, was awarded the win provisionally pending the appeal.
Camacho-Quinn’s impressive sprint of 12.63s secured her position ahead of Devynne Charlton, who finished closely behind in 12.66s.
Meanwhile, reigning world champion Danielle Williams secured the third spot in the fiercely contested race.
