Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, and other top athletes are set to compete for a record-breaking prize money in the 2025 Wanda Diamond League.
The Diamond League General Assembly, held on Sunday, announced a significant increase in the prize pool, which will rise to $9.24 million – the highest in the league’s history since its inception in 2010.
This boost in prize money marks a nearly 30% increase compared to the amounts awarded during the pandemic-impacted seasons from 2021 to 2024.
Also, athletes will benefit from approximately $18 million in promotional fees, travel, accommodation, and medical support.
With the new arrangement, each of the 14 regular series meetings will offer $500,000 in total prize money, while the Wanda Diamond League Final will see athletes compete for a total of $2.24 million.
Prize money per discipline will range from $30,000 to $50,000 at the series meetings and from $60,000 to $100,000 at the Final.
The increase will apply across all 32 Diamond Disciplines, ensuring that a wide range of track and field athletes will benefit from the enhanced rewards.
Petr Stastny, CEO of Diamond League AG, emphasized the league’s commitment to supporting athletes while ensuring the series’ long-term sustainability.
“The Wanda Diamond League is dedicated to increasing rewards for athletes while maintaining the longevity of the series, providing vital competition opportunities for years to come,” Stastny said.
Tobi Amusan, a two-time Diamond League champion in the women’s 100m hurdles, missed the final leg of the 2024 season following a challenging performance at the Paris Olympics.
Amusan is expected to return stronger in 2025 as she targets redemption and competes for the expanded prize pool.
