Former Tanzania Coach Emmanuel Amuneke has hit at former Super Eagles teammate Emeka Ezeugo over the allegations that the team’s 1994 FIFA World Cup campaign was corrupted by then Coach Clemens Westerhoff.
Ezeugo had alleged that Westerhoff selected players whom he had financial interests in, as their Manager, rather than pick players on merit.
The former Eagles defender told brila.net that the Dutchman also lacked the tactical knowledge to steer Nigeria through a competition like the World Cup.
“Clemence Westerhof wasn’t tactically focused as he was more interested in using the players that he was managing (agent) instead of the best players,” Ezeugo claims.
“Westerhof’s substitutions were the reason why we lost against Italy.”
But in his response to the alleged bias by Westerhoff, Amuneke insists he was unaware of any player was contracted to the Coach as a client.
“Clemence Westerhof was not an agent, he was not my agent and I don’t think he was an agent,” Amuneke told brila.net.
“People should stop creating unnecessary controversy,” said the former winger.
