Scottish Premier League egg heads have rolled out superlatives for Hibernian defender, Efe Ambrose, in recognition of his sterling efforts against his former club, Celtic, last weekend.
In a citation to mark Ambrose’s inclusion in the SPL’s team of the week for the past round of matches, buffs of the league body noted that the former Super Eagles utility player put up a tremendous display during the game at Easter Road.
The technical gurus noted that Ambrose even hit a goal that took The Hibs to 2-1 and a fight back into the match, which they described as a titanic battle against ‘the mighty side’ former Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers.
Ambrose, who is the only Hibernian player in the Team of the Week, got his selection as a result of his impressive performance against Celtic, in which he scored to take his side from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 on Sunday.
It was his first goal in all competitions for Hibernian in his first full season, since he completed a move from Celtic to Hibs last summer after an initial loan deal in February, 2017.
According to the SPFL, the Team of the Week which is in a 3-4-3 formation, places Ambrose on the right side of a three-man back line.
The SPFL wrote: “Four goals and plenty of thrills at Easter Road as Hibs and Celtic indulged in another titanic battle.
“While showing his usual confidence in possession, Ambrose also impressed in his defensive duties as Hibs fought valiantly against the might of Brendan Rodgers’ side. Then there was the centre-back’s goal, which got Hibs back into the match at 2-1.”
