Bendel Insurance are through to the final qualifying round of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Algeria’s AS Olympic Chlef.

Insurance came into the match at Salem stadium, Rouiba with a slim advantage following their 1-0 first leg win at home.

The Nigerian Cup holders defended for most part of the game, and should have went behind after 35 minutes as the hosts were awarded a penalty, but goalkeeper Anas Obasogie made a good save to keep the scoreline unchanged.

Chlef finally got their breakthrough few minutes to the end of the first following a poor defending from Bendel Insurance.

The game ended 1-1 and the match went straight into the penalties.

Both side scored their first two kick, before Paul Obata missed Insurance’s third kick.

Obasogie once again came to the rescue by stopping fourth penalty to level the scores.

Bendel Insurance however converted their last kick, while the hosts failed to score and crashed out of the tournament in the process.

Insurance will now face RS Berkane for a place in the Group phase.
