Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso expressed his confidence in Nathan Tella’s significance as a recent addition to the Super Eagles.
Tella, 24, received his inaugural call-up to the Super Eagles’ squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
Continuing a trend of English-born talents joining the Nigerian national team, Tella follows the path of players like Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, and Ademola Lookman in switching allegiance.
Alonso, endorsing Tella’s capabilities, believes the player is poised to excel on the international stage.
“Nathan is a player that has the ability to just do the right thing, be in the right place, he has the quality to be in the box and makes the right runs,” The Spanish manager told the club’s official website.
“In Nigeria they have great strikers and maybe they could use good wingers. He’s a really nice guy with a strong mentality, he has a great attitude.”
Tella scored his maiden Bundelisga goal for the Bayer Leverkusen against Hertha Berlin on Sunday.
