Rabiu Ali’s goal early in the first half proved decisive as Nigeria defeated 10-men Benin Republic side to book a place in the final of the WAFU Nations Cup final.
Nigeria has qualified for the final of the 2017 WAFU Cup championship after beating Benin Republic 1-0 in a tough semi-final match played on Thursday, September 21.
Kano Pillars’ midfielder Rabiu Ali was the hero for the Super Eagles team B scoring the winning goal for Salisu Yusuf’s men in the 10th minute.
Super Eagles started the match impressive with Anthony Okpotu and Ifeanyi tormenting the defense of the Beninese before the breakthrough finally came.
The Midfielder galloped as he paced into the box and slotted the ball past Benin goalie, Glodjinon Steve.
It was the only goal action at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, but the game was not without drama.
The Referee penalized Marcelin Koukpo for simulation; his second booking and so saw red after just 33 minutes of the first half.
Nigeria’s numerical advantage counted for little as their opponents did not relent.
However, both defenses shut the door as Coach Salisu Yusuf’s men picked a spot in the last two, with their fourth clean sheet.
