Alas! Maduka Okoye Will Get His Wish

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye’s situation at Watford is not getting better, and he could leave the club this summer.

Okoye has had to deal with several issues, including lack of playing time since joining the Hornets from Sparta Rotherdam in 2021.

The 23-year-old has now further slipped behind in the pecking order, becoming the third choice at the club behind Daniel Bachamann and Ben Hamer.

The Nigerian missed the pre-season game Boreham Wood and their 1-1 draw with Arsenal last week, which sparked exit rumors from Vicarage Road.

According to a report on Watford Observer, Okoye and Watford are now set to part ways, with both parties seeking possible solutions.

“It would be no surprise if Okoye were to leave during the transfer window,” the website wrote.

“He was conspicuously missing from the Hornets’ 0-0 draw at National League side Boreham Wood and their 1-1 draw with Arsenal last week, which fuels speculation about his future,” The reports reads.

The former Sparta Rotterdam goalie was dubbed as the next big thing when he joined Watford for an initial fee in the region of €3.5m.

His debut season was disappointing, making only two appearances for the Hornets; in the League Cup and FA Cup.
