Nigeria MNT captain, William Troost-Ekong says the motivation for joining Saudi Arabian club, Al Khalood was to secure his future after football.

Ekong left Greek side, PAOK for Al Khalood this summer, a season after winning the Greek Super League title.

 

 

 

In an interview on the Counter Attack podcast, the CB admitted that the offer from Saudi Arabia was too tempting to refuse, especially as he is thinking about his future.

 

 

 

“I got an offer I couldn’t turn down. I am 31, now I have to think about the big picture,” Troost-Ekong explained.

 

 

 

He also spoke on the competitiveness of the Saudi Premier League, highlighting the caliber of players he is now playing alongside.

 

 

 

“I think the Saudi Premier League is competitive. You see the names that are playing there—my first game had Benzema, Kante, Fabinho—players that are world level,” he added.

 

 

 

Troost-Ekong further explained that the move was not only about football but also about providing security for his family.

 

 

 

“Everybody talks about the opportunity you have there to guarantee your future, to think about my family, my kids.”
