Al-Ahly eyeing appointment of Croatian tactical genius

Former Croatia International Zoran Mamic is in line to become Al-Ahly’s new Manager according to reports in Egypt.

Mamic, who previously managed Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr – current side of Super Eagles winger Ahmed Musa – is currently Sporting Director of Dinamo Zagreb.

The 47 year-old is favored to replace the sacked Martin Lasarte, who led Junior Ajayi and the Eagles to a league title last term.

Mamic has not been involved with coaching since April, however all of his most recent roles were in the Middle East with Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia following a spell at Emirati giants Al Ain.

It was in the UAE where he famously led Al Ain to the FIFA Club World Cup final, defeating Team Wellington, Esperance de Tunis and River Plate in the process before eventually losing to Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Dinamo Zagreb who also have Nigerian midfielder Iyayi Atiemwen on their books, are on the brink of reaching the UEFA Champions League group stages having beaten Rosenborg in the first-leg play-off.
