Akwa United will vacate the Nest of Champions, and adopt one of its practice turfs as home ground when the NPFL resumes according to club sources.
The Promise Keepers, who are based in Uyo, have played all their league and continental home matches;Â since 2015, inside the Akwa Ibom International Stadium.
The 30,000 capacity Nest has also hosted several of Nigeria‘s international matches , including the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria in 2016.
Following the NFF‘s Technical Committee inspection of the Nest of Champions last month, the grounds was selected to host Nigeria‘s 2019 Afcon and 2018 World Cup qualifiers in June and August respectively.
Our Sources say “the turf will have to be maintained and well nurtured” ahead of the international matches.
This arrangement thus informed the decision of Akwa United‘s deployment to the practice pitch for future home league matches.
Another option available to the club was the Uyo township stadium, but the poor state of the facility ruled it out for the purpose of professional league matches.
