Akwa United ready to remain top of the log – Olisema

Akwa United midfielder Cyril Olisema has hinted that the Promise Keepers are not under any pressure as they look to maintain first place in Group B till the end of the season.

The Uyo-based side had endured a deep-seated romance with relegation in the early part of the season with a poor run of form that included a defeat and a draw at their vintage Nest of Champions.

But after dropping a point against Plateau United on Matchday 4 courtesy of a 2-2 draw, they went on to win six home games without conceding a goal before Nasarawa United’s visit on Sunday.

In the exciting Matchday 17 encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, it was the Solid Miners that drew the first blood when Thomas Adeshina took advantage of a Jean Efala blunder to stun the home fans 14 minutes after kick-off and deny their Cameroonian goalkeeper an eighth clean sheet of the season.

“Sometimes a match goes like that,” “When they scored that first goal, we did not feel any tension because our coach (Rafael Everton) normally tells us that we have to calm down and play the ball.

So immediately that goal entered our post, we had to remain very calm while playing and you could see that even before the end of the first half we were leading 2-1 so I think that is very good for us.”

The central midfielder was voted the man of the match against Nasarawa United and he is one of two players in the team that has not missed a game this season. But according to him, no one is special in the team.

“This team, one thing that has been motivating us is unity and that unity has given us more good match performances.

And I will tell you one thing, there is nobody special in this team; anybody can come in because everybody is ready to play.” he said.
