Akpom Seeks Assurances from Ajax Manager

Chuba Akpom has stated he needs a guarantee of more regular playing time from Ajax’s manager if he is to remain at the club for another season.

The striker joined Ajax in a €12 million deal from Middlesbrough twelve months ago.

However, his first half of the campaign saw limited playing time, often relegating him to the bench.

The situation improved for the 28-year-old in the latter part of the season, during which he scored 15 goals and registered three assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

“I don’t think I can sit on the bench as a second striker for another year. If I’m more involved in games this year, I’d like to stay here. If not, it might be time to look elsewhere,” Akpom said in an interview with NOS.

Akpom still has four years left on his contract with Ajax Amsterdam, but the Dutch side is open to letting him go for the right offers.

“What I’ve learned throughout my career is to stay focused on football,” he added. “If you start thinking about things off the pitch, you get distracted.

.”I don’t know if I’ll still be here next week or by the end of the transfer window, but every day I come to the club, I train as if I’ll be staying here this season.”

Akpom has reportedly drawn interest from clubs in England, France, and Italy.
