Akor Adams made his first appearance for Sevilla as the Rojiblancos played out a frustrating 0-0 draw against Getafe at the Estadio Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
The Nigerian striker, who joined from Ligue 1 side Montpellier earlier in the week, was introduced in the 81st minute, replacing Suso.
However, his late arrival had little impact on the game, as both sides struggled to break the deadlock.
A Stalemate in Madrid
Getafe came into the match riding a five-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, including a 1-1 draw against Barcelona and a commanding 3-0 win over Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, Sevilla, desperate to turn their form around, had only one win in their previous five outings.
Garcia Pimienta made late tactical changes in search of a breakthrough, first bringing on Chidera Ejuke in the 76th minute and then handing Adams his debut just five minutes later. But the game remained goalless, leaving Sevilla with yet another frustrating result.
With the draw, Getafe extended their unbeaten run to six matches, sitting 14th on the table with 24 points from 22 matches. Sevilla climbed to 11th with 28 points in as many games.
Nigerian Contingent in Action
Aside from Adams, his compatriot Chidera Ejuke also featured in the game, coming on as a substitute for Ruben Vargas in the 71st minute. Ejuke, who has just returned from injury, has managed one goal in 11 league appearances this season.
Getafe’s Chrisantus Uche also put in a good shift for his side, featuring for 77 minutes before being substituted.
Meanwhile, Kelechi Iheanacho was once again left on the bench, continuing his struggle for a place in Sevilla’s starting lineup.
The 27-year-old, who is yet to register a league goal for the Spanish club, remains linked with a potential move away before the transfer window closes.
Scottish giants Celtic are the latest to express interest in a loan deal with an option to buy in the summer.
