After a winless start to their Ligue 1 campaign, Montpellier finally broke the streak, with Akor Adams’ brace proving decisive in their comeback effort.
Adams was the star for Montpellier SC on Sunday, as his two goals secured a 3-2 victory over Auxerre in their Ligue 1 encounter.
The match initially looked bleak for Montpellier, as Auxerre’s Hamed Traorè put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute, a lead they held for over an hour. But Adams equalized for the hosts in the 65th minute, sparking hope of a comeback.
The game remained tense as Montpellier’s Modibo Sagnan and Auxerre’s Ado Onaiwu scored keeping the score level at 2-2 setting the stage for Adams to score the winner in the 75th minute, finishing off a swift counter-attack to seal all three points.
This marks Adams’ fourth brace in Ligue 1, with Lorient, Le Havre, and Toulouse also having experienced his scoring prowess.
The former Flying Eagles striker now has three league goals this season, having opened his account in a 3-1 loss to Nantes in August.
Montpellier is now out of the relegation zone after the win lifts the club to 15th place on the table with four points from five matches.
