Ajibade Refuses To Blame Teammate For The Defeat To Canada

Super Falcons midfielder Rasheedat Ajibade has admitted they faced a formidable opposition in Canada during their training camp in Seville.

The teams engaged in a closed-door friendly match on Wednesday, and the Super Falcons narrowly lost 1-0 in regulation time before clinching a 5-4 victory in a penalty shootout.

Midfielder Rasheedat Ajibade expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting the importance of the match in their build-up to the Olympic Games.

“It was not a bad test match. We lost 1-0 but it was not a bad one,” Ajibade remarked.

“We had good moments in the game but did not utilize our chances. It was a good game to help us prepare ahead of the tournament, so now we know what we need to work on and move forward.”

An error by Deborah Abiodun allowed Canada to score the game’s sole goal in regulation time.

However, Ajibade was quick to defend her teammate.

“Mistakes do happen and that was just it,” the Super Falcons captain said.

“In this high level of football, when you make mistakes like this against highly experienced players, they will always capitalize on them,” she stated.

“We have to be more clinical and disciplined and also make use of the opportunities we get.”

Despite some players not having played high-intensity games for a few weeks, Ajibade noted that the team is finding its rhythm as they prepare for the Games.

“It was a good test match, and even though some of the players have not played a high-intensity game in maybe two to three weeks, I think we have gotten our rhythm now and we are building up ahead of the tournament.”

Nigeria will compete in Group C against football powerhouses in Brazil, Spain, and Japan.
