Ajax manager John van ‘t Schip has lauded the recent performances of forward Chuba Akpom, expressing delight at his pivotal role in the team’s resurgence.
Despite being a periphery figure at the club, Akpom has netted five goals in domestic league.
He has started just one of the club last five matches, yet he’s the Club’s second top scorer this season.
Van ‘t Schip, in his chat with the media highlighted Akpom’s value in substitute appearances and stressed the importance of increased competition within the squad.
“Akpom has also been important in his substitute appearances and against Vitesse.
“But that is also where we want to go: more competition in the selection. That is already slowly happening at the front.”
“He has clearly shown that he is of value. He can also play from the start, so that’s a bonus for us.”
Akpom joined Ajax Amsterdam during last transfer window from Championship side Middlesbrough.
The Dutch Champions paid €16.5m for the services of the English born Nigerian striker.
