Nigeria Volleyball U17 women team gaffer, Sunday Akapson expressed disappointment following his side’s defeat to Egypt in the final of just concluded African U17 women volleyball championship.

Egypt’s U-17 female volleyball team secured a 3-1 resounding victory over Nigeria, claiming the coveted title at the African U17 Women’s Volleyball Championship.

 

The Egyptian team maintained their dominance right from the start, clinching the opening set with a scoreline of 25-21.

However, Nigeria mounted a spirited comeback, winning the second set 25-20. Despite their efforts, the Nigerian team couldn’t maintain the momentum as Egypt rallied to secure victory in the third set at 25-22 and ultimately sealing the championship with a 25-21 triumph in the fourth set.

The defeat marked a bitter end to Nigeria’s aspirations, while Egypt celebrated their prowess on the volleyball court, emerging as the undisputed champions of the 2023 Girl’s U-17 African Nations Volleyball Championship.

“These are young girls, and this is their first time playing an international championship; they fought hard to secure a ticket for the World Cup next year.

“This is a very good grassroots sport for Nigeria Volleyball in general; we will continue to work on these girls to prepare them for future encounters,” he said.
