The President Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali has fervently called for the conferment of national honors upon the triumphant women’s wrestling team.

Nigeria dominated Women’s wrestling event, clinching six gold medal to ensure the country move up on medal table.

Veteran Blessing Oborududu, Odunayo Adekuruoye led the charge with dominance performance in the 68kg and 57kg respectively.

Esther Genesis delivered another gold in women’s 50kg freestyle, followed by Christiana Ogunsanya who showcased her prowess in the 53kg division.

Debutant Esther Kolawole, joined the party with impressive performance in the 62kg category, while Hannah Reuben, completed the clean sweep with victory in the 76kg category.

Igali, was delighted with the feat and laud the girls’ for their commitment.

“I’ve been very impressed with the way they wrestled and I think if they continue in that trajectory Nigeria should be hopeful of many many gold medals in the evening,” Igali stated.

“I thank Nigerians particularly the Bayelsa State Government for always supporting our activities and we hope to make everyone proud later when the final matches resume.”

Igali emphasized the team’s exceptional achievements as deserving of prestigious recognition on the national stage.

“The President has set a precedent of rewarding silver medalists because that’s what he did with the Super Eagles at AFCON and I hope that would be extended,” he added.

“I’m happy that these wrestlers are now eligible for such gesture, which will serve as more motivation for other athletes across the country.”
