Nigeria started their campaign in the men’s football event at the 2023 African Games with a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Uganda in Accra.

Uganda took the lead with a goal from Kizma Osama in the 35th minute.

However, Nigeria quickly responded, with Sadiq Isiyaka scoring from a corner kick to level the score.

With nine minutes left on the clock, Ivan Irinimabozi scored the winning goal nine minutes from time, securing the victory for the Hippos.

In the other Group B game, Senegal defeated South Sudan 1-0.

Nigeria will look to bounce back in their next game against South Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium, on Monday.
