A former member of the Nigeria Football Federation’s Technical and development committee Barrister Austel Elumelu has stated amidst the excitement of having the women CAF champions league that Africa is really not ready for the competition on the ground of viability and readiness to undertake such venture.
Elumelu speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the introduction of the competition sounds good and pleasing but beyond the excitement comes the stark reality of the readiness of African teams to shoulder the responsibility of having their teams play on the continental scene hence his stance on Africa not yet ready.
“As for the women champions league, it’s a welcome development but a lot of clubs will not be able to shoulder the responsibility of playing such league. Most of the clubs especially privately owned clubs will not be able to move outside the shores of the country. I don’t think they will be able to have the financial muscle to undertake such a venture. I don’t think Africa is ripe for it.”
