Former coach of Nigeria’s women national team and Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon has stated that Africa should have earned more than a slot addition to the current three slots following the expansion of the FIFA women’s world cup from 24 to 32 participating nations to the Africa’s total to 4.Â
Okon speaking in a chat with www.brila.net welcomed the idea of the expansion of the FIFA women’s world cup and feels it’s a testament to the growth of the women game and said Africa needs to do more in terms of the women’s game to be well reckoned with by FIFA in the allocation of slots and global recognition.
“It’s a welcome idea no doubt but we need to do more, Africa only one slot at that level, they should give us more than one slot and that’s why we need to develop our Football to take the game to the next level because they still see us like we are still backward.”
