AFN Plans Intensive Olympic Preparation for Athletes
66
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria’s (AFN) Technical Director, Samuel Onikeku has shared the federation’s plans to ensure top-notch preparation for Nigerian athletes heading to the Olympics.
Onikeku assured that past limitations in competitions have been assessed and addressed to provide athletes with the best possible preparation for the Games in an interview with Brila.net.
“The athletes will still move to camp in Germany where preparation will go on smoothly. We believe that if we can’t get perfect preparation, we should get proper preparation towards the Olympics,” Onikeku stated.
“We’ll perfect batting exchanges, ensure smooth run-ups, and make sure throwers and hurdlers can perform to the best of their technical abilities.”
He added, “We always want our best to be in competitions, not in training. We know that Paris will be between 27 and 30 degrees when the competitions start, so we’ll make sure our athletes are hydrated and their clothes are not body-hugging to prevent dehydration.”
Onikeku assured that these measures will help Nigeria achieve its goal at the Olympics.
“All this we’ve put in place, and we believe that as things progress, our target of hearing our national anthem played at the Paris Olympic Stadium will come to pass.”
